I've enjoyed my work in the real estate business since 1984, and since 1990 I have enjoyed helping clients in North Maricopa County, including Scottsdale, Cave Creek, Northeast Phoenix. Peoria, Glendale and Surprise.

I was born in Czechoslovakia in 1947, the same year the communists took control of the country. When I started school at 5 years, my parents were happy that the government now provided pencils, writing paper and books. They thought the communist system must be pretty good.

My older sister always got the new clothes and I got her hand-me-downs. When the Beatles became popular we used to stay up late to hear them on our little "illegal" radio. In high school our favorite pastime on weekends was the the main street. Nobody had cars, so after a date our boyfriends simply had to watch us get on our bus to go home, and they would then catch their own bus. Not very romantic!

The photo on the left is of my husband and me, together with my sisters, brother, their spouses and their children, during a visit there a while ago.

I majored in college preparatory subjects, but my family needed my work, so I became a clerk in the local bus company. Everybody works in a communist country, but we didn't have to work hard.

Two years after graduation from high school the Russians invaded Czechoslovakia. The Czechoslovakian government had been giving more individual freedom to us, and the Russians didn't like that. So they simply sent in their army, exiled our misbehaving government officials and we all went back to the old ways.

My mother and father decided I should go to America. My older sister was already married. My 3 younger sisters and brother were too young to go, so I was the lucky one. But I thought I was only going for a 6 week "vacation" to stay with my grandparents in Chicago. My grandparents had gone to America before World War II, and they lived in the Czechoslovakian community in Chicago. My grandfather told me I was not going home. I was going to work and send money home to my family. I cried a lot and was angry for awhile. But in a couple months I realized how lucky I was to live in America!

My husband and I owned a large sailboat for 14 years, and we sailed to many ports in the Caribbean and the west coast of Mexico, 11,000 miles in all. We enjoy the ocean in most ways, sailing, swimming and snorkeling. But all good things come to an end. We sold the boat when we moved to the "North Valley" from California in 1996 and now we enjoy the desert, too!
